Christmas is in the air, and we are celebrating in style. Since I have little to no work lately, I have had plenty of time to obsess about holidays (see Halloween here). I have decided to make my own presents from scratch. Bake cookies and biscotti for the neighbors. Now technically, I haven’t done any of these things yet, but I have made a color coded excel sheet with all my tasks. Does that count?
Well, the one thing Lapster and I have done is decorate the house for Christmas. I got it in my head that I wanted to wrap our house like a present with a big red bow. Originally, I got this idea thinking back when I lived in Washington DC. A great city to be in during the winter holidays. One of my favorite holiday decorations is the Kennedy Center wrapped in a giant – I mean GIANT – red ribbon and bow – it wraps the entire building. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a picture of it. Well, it was always one of my favorite sites. I used to have a boyfriend who lived over the bridge in Virginia, and when we would drive in to the city each morning it made me so happy. A beautiful crisp white building wrapped in red ribbon that covered about two city blocks.
So i got it in my mind that I wanted to do that, and Lapster, being the wonderful boyfriend he is was going to find a way to build it. He is putting together a full how-to if you would like to re-create it on your own home. But here are the brief details. We bought a 100ft roll of red table cloth (you know the kind you have on summer picnics), a 25ft roll of green plastic fencing (plastic chicken wire), and about 500 lights (sounds better than it really is – we had two giant stings). Then we built a giant bow that is about 6ft high and 4ft wide.
Hint: Just for the record, after we build it I learned there were tons of sites where you can buy giant bows for buildings or if you want to buy me a car as a gift. So next time, I would recommend just pay the money and buy a bow.
It’s hard to explain – that’s why Lapster is writing a detailed “how toâ€, but it turned out really great. We have even had several neighbors knock on our door to say they like it, and we overheard two women walking their dogs describing that they had “seen that kit at Targetâ€. I thought that was our biggest compliment.
So I wanted to share our holiday decoration with you!!! Seasons Greetings.
