This week I decided to get my health back on track. As so many of us — I did the math — two months until summer (I know, I know this is a very un-feminist entry). I have tried to be more positive about this process by focusing on health and not being “skinny.” So it would make sense that now that I am trying to eat less — food is haunting me, stalking me in the night. Even my new issue of Fast Company has a title article called “Eat This” and a full issue devoted to food technology. Perhaps my battle is useless. So if you can’t beat them — JOIN EM!
Now, I love food. Hopefully that is obvious by an entire blog post devoted to it. I love it all. Honestly, I’ll eat anything, but what I love more? I LOVE BEVERAGES! I know, it’s strange. Most people crave chocolate, potato chips, or burgers. I do too, but a lot of my food fantasies revolves around drinks — sweet chai tea, a brilliant vanilla milkshake, a cold Sunkist Orange soda in a glass bottle. I could continue on and on about this (a large bottomed wine goblet filled halfway with deep red Shiraz, creamy golden Belgium beer in a tall pilsner glass with a wedge of lemon, etc).
I think I’ve proved my point. Now, whenever I move to a new city I have several requirements for a new apartment, but most importantly it has to pass “The walking liquid test”. It is a quiz to see if the new digs I’m interested in can keep up with my lifestyle. When I am looking for a new apartment I ask three pivotal questions:
1. Can I walk to get a beer?
2. Can I walk to get a cup of coffee? (Advanced Test: Is the coffee on route to work? Does it have wifi access? )
3. Can I walk to buy soda? (Advanced Test: Is it open late — yes, I’m one of the only people in the world who can take a hit of caffeinated soda to “settle me down” before bed.)
Now if I’m being completely honest, there are a lot more questions to my full list — but these are the non-negotiable. This test also lets me know that I’m in a neighborhood that suits my needs and has a lot of great modern conveniences — but that’s beside the point. It’s about refreshment baby!
So to wrap up this long rambling entry. I have compiled some great food blogs to feed your fire. If I can’t eat whatever I want — I can look at these blogs and lick the screen. Enjoy.
I’m outta here. Time For Dinner!
