Drop Your EGO At The Door. . .

April 21st, 2006 · 1 Comment

First and foremost, I know I said I would put up a poem each day, but I’ve put up so much poetry — I wanted to get back to true blogging. Don’t worry though, more verse to come.

Let’s start with the definition:

Ego
Pronunciation: ‘E-(”)gO also ‘e-
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural egos
Etymology: New Latin, from Latin, I — more at I
1 : the self especially as contrasted with another self or the world
2 a : EGOTISM 2 b : SELF-ESTEEM 1
3 : the one of the three divisions of the psyche in psychoanalytic theory that serves as the organized conscious mediator between the person and reality especially by functioning both in the perception of and adaptation to reality — compare ID, SUPEREGO
- ego·less adjective

A few days ago I saw a great posting on Blogher about Ego. As I am a “newbie” to the blogging world I did an ego search for “VT Girl” and came up empty — completely empty. Now, when I initially began to write a blog I intended to keep it private. In fact, I have been kind of obsessed with making sure that no one would read my words unless I “let them.” I thought it best to only share my thoughts with friends and family. But I have to admit — when I saw that that nobody was reading, and after reading a lot more blogs — I can’t help but want to be a more active participant in the community.

So I’ve been doing some great reading on building a blog audience, learning to find your voice, and blog publicity. Now that lapster has done a brilliant job of re-designing the site. I may venture out. Now, don’t go crazy — I said I might.

Also, lapster and I are building a great links page that will include some of the helpful sites and articles I’ve found. But right now, since this is a post about ego — I’m going to go and look at myself in the mirror (maybe I’ll get lucky!).

Try it for yourself:
Finally, remember — Don’t hate the player. Hate the Game!
