How Can I Keep From Singing?

March 9th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Hi all.

My past few postings have been a little bitter – there were true – but bitter nonetheless. This site is supposed to be about passion and excitement. So although this will be a forum for my righteous feminist rants, I want to balance it with fun.

So, let’s ride the bliss wave shall we?

I’m hooked on KT Tunstall. She isn’t new – but she is new to me. KT is literally a one woman band. She creates her music live by recording quick tracks of her voice, banging on her guitar, tambourine – whatever! Then she plays the loops as the background to her vocals and guitar. It is hard to explain.

The other two reasons I like her.

  1. She used to play in Burlington VT and hell, I’m VTgirl for Christ sake! I have to support my homeland, right?
  2. She is a hot woman playing guitar. It’s that simple. A woman with a viewpoint and a guitar is a dream to me. Don’t care if it is Raw Poetic Beauty, Folk Freedom, or Rockin Sarcasm. I just love it. In my next life I will start earlier on the pursuit of my rock and roll lifestyle. For now, I’ll just keep learning to play the guitar with lessons from the master, and sing as loud as I can when no one is around.
Buy the Album — it’s a good one.

The last quick mention is PANDORA!! It is a great find by my sister. Pandora is an online radio station started by the Music Genome Project. Simply enter an artist you like – and it will create a collection of songs that have a similar style and essence. So far they have been dead on for my taste. It is great if you are interested in learning more about a genre of music – for example: say you like Bluegrass, but don’t really know where to start. Well, go to Pandora and search for an artist you know you like say “Union Station” and Pandora creates a collection of bluegrass artists that sound like union station.

Enjoy.

Oh, how I love to find new music…when you cannot stop listening to something new, when you want to share it with friends, when you can hear layers of music. Ah. So good.
