I knew it.

I initially saw this story on Techie Diva’s Blog. The issue is a survey that suggests that “one in five (23%) women would rather receive a tech toy than bouquets or sweets on Valentine’s Day.”

Amen to that. Spare me the flowers and chocolates (well, maybe not entirely). Gadgets are a girl’s best friend. Well, to be honest the survey also said that — 70% of men wanted gadget gifts. It’s universal.

I found a few good gadget gift guides to help you for Valentine’s Day — in the best kind of way:

• Engadget: All the comments suggest pink mini ipods. Yeah, that’s fine. But my favorite suggestion from the list — TIVO!!! Once you get it you can’t live without it.
• Apple Store: Yup, they have a Valentine guide too. I know I trashed the pink ipod above, but only because everyone suggested it. I won’t even choose a favorite thing. I want it all!!!!
• AskMen.com: I know, the name makes me gag a little, but they have a Valentine List. Not all gadgets, but some unique gifts — but never, get your girl a gift baskets. Gift baskets are for “sorry the investment I suggested to you went bad” or “congrats on having a baby work colleague”. That’s it. Not for someone close to you.

Finally, god bless our single sisters (and brothers). Valentine’s Day sucks when you don’t have someone fun to celebrate with. Don’t stress friends. You are strong. It is your time to shine!

Whether you have a special someone or you are flying free and solo it’s just one day. So just use it as an excuse to buy fun gadgets. Regardless of all the talk about gadgets for the holiday I imagine that the traditional gifts will be predominant. That’s cool. I dig romance. But for the record – the candy bra – not a good gift.
