I love flower pictures - I have just downloaded Picasa and now I love Picasa because I can see all my flower pictures better than Windows displays them. The world doesn’t care much for flower photos…too gaudy, and unreal. But I am obsessed with flowers and flower photos for just that very reason. My eyes soak in the rich textures and colors. I eat them visually. But it only lasts for a moment when I am in the pressence of soft, impossible beauty. When they are translated into print photography, drawings or paintings, the extreme colors seem lurid and out of place and don’t revive that rush of brilliance in me. However, when I get home and plug a flower photo into my computer I get a chance to revisit the thrill of color. I can manipulate that pic digitally, tweak the saturation, darken the shadows and neutrals, and bring that flower - flat and unassuming - back to the way I remember it - guady and lurid and amazing.

But only on screen. Only in that digital moment…
